ABOUT COMPUTER M.D.
I founded Computer M.D. in April 2002 because I was commuting 3 hrs
per day to Washington D.C. (Arlington, VA) and that was just not working for me. I also wanted
to provide solutions for small businesses (1-25 employees) with an
Holistic Information Technology (Holistic IT) approach. I saw a need for home-based and small to medium size
businesses that did not have permanent Information Technologist on
staff or a Chief Information Officer.
To
have somebody reliable, available to give consulting in a timely manner.
Where did it all start??
It all started back at Ferndale High School as I
wrote my first computer program at 13 in BASIC (Beginner's
All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code). Then I assisted in getting
a connection with Western Washington University through a 300 baud
modem (fast for the time). I also setup our first computer lab (4
APPLE II PCs, not networked) as a senior in High School.
Now there was college (Chemistry major, minor in
Math). I wrote programs for the chemistry professors and presented
papers to the American Chemical Society on how computers can be used
in Chemistry. The first glimpse of Holistic IT.
After leaving college I went into the U.S. Air
Force as a Medical Logistician and saw the that field move from punch card
processing to Mini Mainframes to PC based processing over a 6 year
span and one war (Desert Storm). After the war, I entered the MD ANG and transitioned
from
Medical Logistics to Computers and Communication. I upgraded their
manual method of tracking supplies with a Holistic IT approach
so we could report where money was being spent or needed.
Around 1998 I was a government contractor for
USAID (United States Agency for International Development) as a
desktop support person and supported 800 out of the 2000 users in
Washington DC over my 2 years working desktop support.
In 2000 I was hired by a different government
contractor as the Helpdesk Manager for OFDA( Office of US Foreign
Disaster Assistance) or as we say the FEMA of the world. After
9-11-01 working 65hrs per week with 15hours a week commuting
made me look at what is important. See above about commuting.
Computer M.D. listens to
your processes,
needs and concerns, then provides a cost effective solution that
creates productivity and profitability.
